Who we are

Introduction

Fertility Europe is the Pan-European organisation representing patients’ associations dedicated to infertility, enabling a network for those concerned with fertility problems, patient empowerment, engaging other stakeholders and the media.

  • An NGO, registered in 2009
  • Based in Brussels, Belgium
  • 35 member associations from 29 countries
  • Patient partner organisation of ESHRE

Our mission

Our mission is to foster inclusive communities that promote awareness of fertility and infertility, support reproductive autonomy and acknowledge those childless not by choice. We advocate for effective fertility legislation and equitable access to rights-based care on both European and national levels.

Our vision

Our vision is a Europe where individuals facing infertility and involuntary childlessness have equal access to the medical, financial, and psychosocial support they require. We aspire to a society that upholds reproductive rights for all, ensures widespread access to accurate information about fertility and infertility, and integrates comprehensive reproductive health education into school curricula.

Based on the mission and vision provided, here are five key objectives:

  • Maintain strong relationships with our member associations and strategic partners
Foster open communication, provide ongoing support to members, and collaborate on shared goals to advance our mission and vision.
  • Enhance Public Awareness and Education on Fertility and Infertility
Develop campaigns, workshops, and educational resources to increase public awareness about fertility, infertility, and reproductive health, including the challenges faced by those who are childless not by choice.
  • Promote Comprehensive Legislation for Reproductive Rights
Advocate for the creation and enforcement of laws that protect reproductive rights, ensuring consistent, rights-based fertility legislation across Europe, with a focus on accessibility, equity, and patient autonomy.
  • Expand Access to Equitable Fertility and Reproductive Health Care
Work with European and national healthcare systems to promote affordable and accessible fertility treatments, counselling, and support services, reducing disparities in access to reproductive care.
  • Provide Supportive Resources for Psychosocial Well-being
Create and maintain support networks, counselling services, and resources for those facing infertility or involuntary childlessness, addressing the psychosocial impact and fostering an inclusive, supportive community.

These objectives provide a comprehensive approach to achieving the vision and mission by addressing awareness, legislation, access, support, and education.

Why Fertility Europe was founded

Fertility Europe has three main goals, to:

  • Build a strong European network among European patients and professionals in order to achieve the exchange of best practice
  • Promote education in the field of protection of reproductive health and a pro-active approach to family planning
  • Improve the situation concerning the rights of those affected by difficulties in conceiving in many areas.
