In Memoriam – Roy Farquharson

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Roy Farquharson, former Chair of ESHRE and a true friend of patients across Europe.

Those of us who worked with him will remember a lovely, thoughtful man with a kind and jolly smile. He made everyone feel welcome, and he made patient representatives feel like genuine partners in the room.

During his time as ESHRE Chair, and long after, Roy was a firm supporter of the cooperation between ESHRE and Fertility Europe. He saw clearly that professionals and patients achieve more together, and he helped build a partnership based on mutual respect and shared goals. Much of what our two organisations do together today rests on the trust he helped create.

Irina Popova, Fertility Europe Vice-Chair: Dr Roy Farquharson was a dear friend of Fertility Europe and the inspiration behind one of our most important projects, the FActs! project. He followed our work closely and was always there to support us. It was an honour to know him. He will be remembered with deep gratitude and affection.

Our thoughts are with Roy’s family, friends and colleagues. He will be greatly missed.
