40 years: 40 reasons
This year was the 40th anniversary of IVF, as Louise Brown – the first IVF baby, was conceived 40 years ago and since then over 6.5 million people have been born through the use of IVF.
Our hashtag #40REASONS brings into focus 40 significant reasons why fertility is important to the people of Europe. The reasons we chose are related to the economy, social and/or societal issues, health concerns, demographics, and of course the personal experience of the individuals dealing with infertility.

“As populations age, time to talk about fertility”
We hope that our European Fertility Week will get more and more people engaged and makes them realise that fertility needs to be put higher on the agenda of policymakers, health carers and education authorities. Fertility Europe and all the Member Associations will be happy to support and assist any initiative that would serve the cause.
Many Member associations took part in European Fertility Week 2017 – they were participating in our #40reasons campaign as well as organising events and other initiatives to provide best support for infertility patients in their own countries.
